Lightbourne Wins £200,000 PartyPoker WPT 2015 Main Event
The 2015 World Poker Tour partypoker Main Event has concluded in Nottingham, with Iaron Lightbourne winning the largest prize of his career thus far on Sunday when he scooped a massive £200,000 in the tournament’s finale. Lightbourne succeeded over hundreds of competitors to lay claim to the much coveted winner’s trophy. The tournament took place at the Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham, from the 3rd to 8th of November, with 450 entrants, a minimum buy-in of £2,200 and a huge £1,000,000 prize pool.
Lightbourne went into the six player WPT final table with over 2,900,000 chips in his arsenal. The experienced poker player, hailing from London, has previously won the Unibet Open London Main Event for £70,000 and achieved runner-up status in Event 12 of the 2015 World Series of Poker for over $280,000. Going into the partypoker WPT Nottingham main event, Lightbourne was guaranteed at least sixth place, as were each of the other five players, a position which came with a £40,000 prize.
The six-player final table began at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and was an exciting game of poker. Fraser Bellamy came in third with £90,000, Andrew Sedan followed in fourth with £65,000, Russell Betts claimed £50,000 for fifth place and finally Chi Zhang in sixth place with £40,000.
Zhang got off to the most disappointing start, going all in and exiting early in last place. He was followed by Betts, being arguably the player with the least experience at the final table, he took a sudden dive after calling an all-in bet, only to see McCorkell turning over a flush. Sedan was pushed out next, and Bellamy was looking confidently like the most likely champion of the day. It wasn’t to be, however, and he crashed out of the game, leaving Lightbourne and McCorkell to battle it out in the finale, with Lightbourne emerging triumphant at the end.
