Aussie Millions Tournament Gets Started in Melbourne
The Aussie Millions poker tournament 2016 has kicked off in Melbourne recently, with a massive AUD$30 million in prizepools. The popular poker series takes place every year and attracts an average of two thousand players from around the world, both seasoned professionals and ambitious amateurs, who strive to take home their slice of the prize fund. Regarded as Asia-Pacific’s most prestigious live poker tournament, the Aussie Millions is in its tenth series this year and promises to be the best one yet. It is a huge event on the international poker circuit, and attracts crowds to rival the WSOP.
Taking place in Australia’s leading entertainment resort, the Crown Melbourne, the tournament promises to be one of the biggest events on the world poker calendar. The director of the Aussie Millions Tournament, Joel Williams, announced that this year “has a schedule featuring 24 official Championship events, 2016 looms as one of the biggest events yet”. These events are running from the 16th of January to 16th of February with buy-ins ranging from $1,150 to $100,000. The Crown Casino offers numerous satellites which got underway before the tournament began, where countless players were able to bag a seat at the live events and win a spot at the bigger buy-in tournaments. Thanks to the tournament’s affiliation with PokerStars more players can qualify through online qualifiers.
Action began earlier this month, with the first tournament on the schedule being a big $1,150 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event which was won by Kevin Blackwood. Successful UK poker player Stephen Chidwick won the $2,500 8-game mixed event on the 22nd January, and the $25,000 challenge was recently won by Chance Kormuth on the 24th. Aussie Brendon Rubie won the $1,650 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty title last Monday morning. Still to come is the $10,600 Main Event, the $100,000 Challenge and the $250,000 LK Bennett Challenge.
