DDxxM7TXgAA0nrpPoker player George Alexander won Grosvenor UK Poker Tour London (GUKPT) Main Event which had a buy-in for £550 and received a grand prize of £50,000. There were a total of 450 players who entered the Main Event and Alexander outlasted the competition to be crowned the winner.

Tournament organizers had a guarantee of £100,000 on the Main Event and were happy to see the guarantee go up as a record breaking 449 players registered for the Main Event, taking the guaranteed prize pool up to £124,500. When the nine finalists of the event were finally established, the minimum amount that they were guaranteed to win was a cool £3,600.

Alexander faced stiff competition when it came down to the final nine but in the end held his nerve to secure the biggest win of his career till date. Andrew Christoforou finished in second place taking home £40,450 while Giulo Mascolo finished third and won £34,400. Le Goff, who was eliminated in fourth place, was the first player to win a five-figure prize. He moved all in with a Jack and a King, but Alexander had a better hand and busted him out.

When there were just three players left at the table, they came to an agreement to remove £10,000 from the original first place prize of £60,000 and add it to the prize of the player who finished third. The beneficiary of this deal was Mascolo. When Andrew Christoforou started playing heads-up against George Alexander, his stack was ten times smaller than Alexander’s.

When the blinds were raised to 80,000/160,000, Christoforou was in a tough situation. In just ten minutes, the poker battle ended and George Alexander was declared the winner. Based on the Hendon Mob, Alexander had his first win back in 2010 but since then has not had any major wins.

His last major win was also in London during 2012 when he won a £540 buy-in and took home £15,000 in prize money. With his latest win, Alexander now has close to $100,000 in career prize money and is ranked in 931 place on the UK’s all time money list.

The next £10,000 guaranteed main event of the GUKPT will be played in Leeds from September 10 – 17. Poker players who would like to be a part of the tournament can head over to the Grosvenor Poker website and play one of the online qualifiers.
